All ATTCH trainings are evidence-informed trainings, based on current research and evidence-based and best practices approaches in the fields of attachment, trauma, and neuroscience. To date, ATTCH has trained over 1000 professionals of various fields inclusive of psychiatrists, therapists, occupational therapists, school personnel, domestic violence counselors, GP Psychotherapists, residential treatment staff, child welfare organizations, mental health and addictions practitioners, foster and adoptive parents, medical students, doctors, professionals from developmental and acquired brain injury sectors, nurses, private practitioners, psychologists, and sexual assault counsellors. Trauma Training by a qualified Trauma Specialist ensures that the trainer has a comprehensive understanding of trauma, how it impacts the body, the mind, and behaviour, and how the brain becomes hard-wired and associations are formed that cause us to respond in rigid automatic manners, rather than how we would want to respond. A trauma specialist understands that it is not that we "don't,” but rather that sometimes we "can't." A trauma specialist is willing to slow down treatment to focus on identifying, addressing, and resolving the underlying issues in a safe and secure manner to allow for externalizing, containment, and reconstruction. Trauma is co-morbid with so many other factors, so that having a core awareness of trauma and its impact and differential diagnosis is crucial for therapists to determine proper diagnosis and complete efficacious treatment planning. Although there are services that are trauma-informed, few specialize in delivering trauma-informed approaches, based on current research and best practices to the maximum and most effective extent possible. Herman (1997) indicates that working with complex trauma can be challenging, due to its oscillating and dialectical nature, and a comprehensive awareness of trauma and its impact should be known, before engaging in trauma intervention. ATTCH provides quality training rich with practical examples, due to the skilled clinicians we employ and the diverse populations, with whom we work. There are ongoing opportunities for continuing education in trauma practitioner work, at ATTCH. Individuals travel from across Canada to train with ATTCH in ourIntegrative Trauma and Attachment Treatment Model (ITATM) ® and the consistent referrals, as well as organizational training requests received by ATTCH, support the need for trauma-trained practitioners in this complex field. There is a great need for this work, especially given the current movement forwards across Ontario, for trauma-informed training and support. The ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) study in U.S. revealed a significant finding of “Linking childhood trauma to long-term health and social consequences,” which affects individuals of all ages. Below you will find an overview of the wide variety of upcoming trainings available to help enhance your knowledge and clinical practice through a trauma informed lens. We have also included a sampling of comments received from participants.
